Chattanooga Police Department Report Officer Involved Shooting, Hostage Situation

Officer Involved Shooting Investigation: On July 31, 2019 at 4:30 a.m. Chattanooga Police Officers were called to a residence in the 3700 block of Kellys Ferry Road for a Disorder with a Weapon call. The following are the preliminary details:

Prior to arrival, officers were informed the suspect was armed with a long gun, holding three hostages. Responding officers set up a perimeter around the residence. On duty Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) Officers established communication with the suspect, requesting he disarm himself and come outside. The suspect exited the residence with a long gun.

Officers gave verbal commands for suspect to drop the firearm. He did not comply and raised his weapon toward police. On scene officers rendered aid until Hamilton County EMS arrival. The suspect was transported by Hamilton County EMS and is being treated at a local hospital. As investigators processed the scene the suspect’s firearm was located. 

Per Chattanooga Police Department policy, involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the criminal investigation and all inquiries should be directed to that agency.
